Local, Loud and Proud

The ANU School of Music has hosted just over 2,000 school children from the local area in two huge concerts in Llewelyn Hall on Thursday morning.

The concerts are an important part of the music Engagement Program run by the School and funded by ArtsACT.

The concerts are the product of months of work by the school students, their music teachers and Dr Susan West and Georgia Pike from the ANU School of Music.

Students were singing and moving to all sorts of music from jingles right through to Offenbach, and there was also an appearance by the Head of the School of Music, Professor Peter Tregear, who sung with a choir of students from Mount Rogers Primary School.

Together with Georgia Pike, they sang a selection from the opera The Magic Pudding, composed by the University’s own Dr Calvin Bowman, which  recently premiered in Melbourne.

You can also hear some of the singing via ABC 666′s website, and view more photos on the School of Music website.
